Upstate NY (much, much larger than the city of NY) has been ruled by the completely different people of NYC. This is similar to not having an electoral college. NYC has always got their way in state governance and is nothing like Upstate NY.

I’ve lived in upstate NY my whole life but only been able to visit New York City one time. I missed being able to see the Statue of Liberty and the 911 memorial, two of the things I wanted to see most (especially the latter). Wanted to go back sometime to see those, but no way I want to go anywhere near that madhouse right now!
